Serie A giants Roma picked up a 1-0 win over Lazio in the Derby della Capitale, thanks to a Lorenzo Pellegrini goal.

Despite the win, manager Gian Piero Gasperini  has highlighted the need for Roma to get better and that they stagnated towards the end of the tie.

The Italian spoke to reporters in the post-game press conference and when asked about Pellegrini, he said (via TMW):

“I started thinking about it on Tuesday or Wednesday. In training, I see a strong player; we need to develop him into an athlete with personality and great performances.”

“He’s 29 years old, he has everything it takes to do well: he plays with little effort because he has quality. Today he came off due to cramps. He could be an excellent player from an athletic standpoint.”

Gasperini reveals that Roma made some poor decisions across the game and they need to sort some things out.

“We need to get our heads together a bit: we made some poor decisions at that point. We could have scored more goals, but instead we took risks: those were some awful minutes at the end. The light went off a bit, but I hope we can fix it.”

The veteran was asked about whether they put something extra into the performance today after the loss to Torino.

He said: “We didn’t prepare well for the match, but this team didn’t disappoint. We need to improve in terms of quality, we need to expand the squad: we have seven or eight competitive players. We need to make progress quickly.”

Roma have now won three games in the league, with Lazio having won just once so far in the campaign. The defeat will put some pressure on Maurizio Sarri, whose side did have some good chances to get something from the game.
