Gianni Infantino is under pressure amid the fallout from his abandoned plan to bring private funds into the World Cup, and is seeking to shore up support. According to The Times, the FIFA president is said to have promised Morocco the right to stage the 2030 final in return for political backing.

The move forms part of a wider diplomatic push as some close collaborators have distanced themselves in recent days, leaving Infantino increasingly exposed.

The report says he has also urged several federations to publish statements of support following the crisis triggered by his proposed FIFA Forward Enterprise, which would have involved private investment.

It adds that the final would be played at the planned Hassan-II Stadium in Casablanca, with a capacity of 115,000, rather than at Madrid’s Santiago Bernabéu. Morocco, Spain and Portugal are due to co-host the tournament, with three matches set for South America.

The report also quoted a FIFA spokesperson as saying the claim was false and misleading, adding that FIFA would decide the 2030 final host in due course.
