Giuliano Simeone has moved beyond the tag of the Cholo’s son, becoming a cornerstone for Atlético as they face Barça in the Champions League.

According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, doubts were understandable in summer 2024, when his father created space for his third son after a low-key loan at Alavés curtailed by a fractured fibula that limited him to 720 minutes.

Atlético began last season uncertain, so Simeone sought solutions from the bench. A forward by trade, Giuliano was handed the right flank and responded with the courage and determination long associated with his coach.

He soon became a fixture thanks to his ability to play as a winger in attack and a full-back in defence, a dual role prized by his father and manager. He finished the year on 50 appearances and has pushed on in his second senior season.

Heading into this tie he is the player with the most starts this season, 38, level with Hancko. Tonight he will move past the injured Oblak for minutes played, leaving only the Slovak centre-back ahead of him. Only Koke, 45, has more outings than his 44 in 48 matches.

His output is clear, seven goals, the latest on Saturday against Barça, and eight assists. That places him fourth for goal involvements, behind Julián, Sorloth and Griezmann.
