Oliver Glasner revealed that he tried to move Crystal Palace’s final Premier League game against Arsenal to Saturday instead of this Sunday.

After Manchester City failed to secure a win against Bournemouth on Tuesday, Arsenal secured their first league title in 22 years.

With the title wrapped up, Glasner tested his luck by attempting to push Crystal Palace’s final Premier League game against Arsenal forward by a day to give his side more rest ahead of the UEFA Conference League final, but was met with rejection.

“We tried to move the Arsenal game to Saturday because this would help us this would help us for Wednesday,” he explained. “It would give us one more day with the league having already been decided”

Glasner said “I didn’t call anybody, I just forwarded it in the club” when asked if it was him personally that put in the request on Wednesday morning with the Premier League.

Instead of playing the title winners on Sunday the 24th, Glasner tried to get the league game pushed forward to Saturday the 23rd to allow more rest and recovery for his team’s all important final on Wednesday.

Glasner explained that he presumes his request was denied due to contractual issues and tv licences but also due to Premier League wanting the “big celebration the trophy goes to Arsenal” playing out on the last day of the season.

The Palace manger explained that having that extra day of rest and recovery could have been crucial for his team in the run up to their biggest game of the season. Glasner explained that if he had been granted an extra day to prepare, it would have been a massive benefit, explaining that it would have“helped us for Wednesday giving us one more day”.

Glasner then went on to explain that not having the extra day of rest and recovery will impact his team’s preparation for the final negatively. The manager highlighted to the press that his team now only has two days to train in which both will have to consist of low intensity training to allow his team to be final ready by Wednesday.
