Robert Glatzel is set to miss HSV’s trip to Dortmund after giving an unauthorised interview, with disciplinary measures, including a fine, expected.
He told Hamburger Morgenpost earlier this week, without prior club approval, that he was frustrated by a reduced role, adding, "I don't want to start any fires."
Head coach Merlin Polzin said on Thursday he understood the striker’s feelings but criticised the way they were aired, calling it incompatible with club rules and standards. He added that Glatzel had chosen that route knowingly.
Following the interview, Glatzel held talks with the coaching staff and sporting director Claus Costa. A financial penalty is anticipated, though the amount has not been disclosed.
Polzin initially stopped short of confirming sporting consequences, but standards and accountability were emphasised within the squad.
The fallout is not expected to last. Glatzel is expected to sit out only one match, with a chance to push back into contention during the international break and beyond. As Polzin put it, "it’s not as if he’s being banned because of this."
