Although cup-winning Go Ahead Eagles boss, Paul Simonis, recently extended his contract in Deventer, the coach could still depart this summer.

VfL Wolfsburg are on the market for a new boss and Simonis himself is open to the German mid-table team, according to Voetbal International.

“The expectation in Germany is that Wolfsburg will report to Deventer this week. In order to prevent a soap opera, Simonis wants clarity about his future quickly,” says the website.

Wolfsburg will have to come up with a buyout fee, since Simonis has just extended his contract. Presumably, more clubs will come for the 40-year-old tactician.

“His name was also circulating at Ajax last month, but the Amsterdammers opted for John Heitinga,” according to VI.

Simonis has previously been assistant coach at Go Ahead and also sc Heerenveen. According to De Telegraaf, Jacob Neestrup of FC Copenhagen is also in the picture at Wolfsburg. The Dane would even have a slight advantage, as he previously worked with Peter Christiansen, the sporting director of Die Wölfe.
