Competition grew after his best Premier League season, with 10 goals and seven assists in 36 games, yet the 29-year-old opted for the club who were prepared to pay a fee last summer.

The quiet since news of the move sparked understandable nerves, given 2019’s collapsed James switch after photos at Elland Road and Fulham’s late Wilson U-turn last summer. The delay has been put down to logistics and timing, with the move described as agreed and not a cause for concern.

If, as expected, the deal is confirmed, Wilson would then link up with his Wales team-mates for pre-season later this month.
