After Sunderland’s dramatic Tyne-Wear derby comeback at St James’ Park, players flooded social media, headlined by Granit Xhaka’s four-word post. Sunderland Echo reports that the squad’s messages captured gratitude and the scale of the result.

Sunderland fell behind early but responded with a forceful second half. Chemsdine Talbi, at 20 years and 317 days, became the youngest Sunderland player to score against Newcastle in the Premier League.

Goalkeeper Melker Ellborg posted a picture of the away end with “Massive win today! Thanks for the support,” accompanied by red and white hearts. Omar Alderete shared a celebratory image captioned “+3”, followed by hearts and a clenched fist.

Lutsharel Geertruida wrote “Fair to say, Tyne and Wear is…” with red and white symbols, a pointed nod to the rivalry. That sat alongside the record that Sunderland are unbeaten in their last 11 league games against Newcastle, with the Magpies winless at home in this fixture since 2010 and without a league victory since 2011.

Xhaka added “This one means everything” with a red heart and his hashtag, a message that resonated given his visible first-half frustration and the turnaround after the break. Match-winner Brian Brobbey replied “Yess my captain”, while other comments called the result “historic”, reflecting a united dressing room.
