Grêmio academy centre-back Luis Eduardo, 18, could make his continental debut tonight after being named in a Conmebol matchday squad for the first time, for the Copa Sudamericana tie against Montevideo City Torque.

According to Globo.com, Chelsea and Manchester United have made enquiries about the teenager, who declined to discuss a possible move.

The defender has welcomed his promotion and says he has built a strong working relationship with head coach Luís Castro despite limited minutes so far. He is focusing on daily preparation, taking guidance from senior team-mates and staying ready physically and mentally for when a chance arises. He notes Castro demands intensity and concentration in every session, with a focus on game understanding and decision-making.

He featured once in this year's Gauchão after making his senior bow in last season's competition. Officially elevated to the first team less than a month ago, he is part of a promising cohort that includes Gabriel Mec, Roger, Tiago and goalkeeper Gabriel Menegon, who are also in the squad.

Youth performances have drawn European attention, with Olympiakos offering R$ four million. There were enquiries at the end of 2025, and he remains focused on the club.

He has been a regular in Brazil's youth selections, played at the Under-17 World Cup in 2025 and captained Grêmio's Under-17s to the Brazilian runners-up spot last season.

Luis Eduardo says transfer matters are handled by his representatives and that his aim is to grow at Grêmio and contribute to the team.
