The 2025 season ended with a 28-year tradition broken, as Grêmio and Inter wore different main sponsors in the final two Brasileirão rounds after Grêmio terminated its Alfa Bet deal.
According to Globo.com, the clubs had shared a master sponsor since 1998 and, in February, agreed their most lucrative contract, with Alfa Bet signing for three seasons at about R$ 50 million per year.
Grêmio later raised payment issues, with the September instalment delayed after Alfa cited a corporate restructuring. Inter said at the time its payments were up to date.
On 1 December, Grêmio sought to rescind due to three late payments totalling roughly R$ 12 million, then arranged a short-term deal. The team carried Energia Bet against Fluminense and Sport, while Inter kept Alfa Bet versus São Paulo and Bragantino.
The last time the pair had different front-of-shirt brands was 1997. Grêmio, that year’s Copa do Brasil winners, displayed Ironcryl linked to Tintas Renner, while Inter, champions of the Gauchão, partnered Aplub.
From 1998, GM sponsored both, with Chevrolet on the shirts for three seasons. In 2001 the arrangement ended, Banrisul became the main partner, and that partnership lasted 23 years before moving to the back in 2025 as both clubs signed with Alfa until 2027, curtailed at Grêmio in under 10 months.
Grêmio are now pursuing a sole master sponsor for 2026, with five potential partners from different sectors. Inter have not moved to rescind with Alfa Bet, though one instalment is outstanding and the relationship remains uncertain.
