Grêmio are standing by Luís Castro despite mounting fan pressure following elimination to Bolívar in the Copa Sul-Americana, with the Portuguese enduring his toughest spell in seven months and the side in the Brasileiro’s Z-4.

According to Globo.com, the coach was booed and chants for Renato Portaluppi were heard during the match. A short post-game meeting conveyed disappointment with the display and a demand for more from the group.

Club leaders argue the daily work is strong, even if it is yet to show in games. Vice-president of football Rafael Lima said Castro remains in post because of the progress seen on the training ground and that they will work for wins to come as soon as possible.

Internal voices reaffirmed his continuity immediately after the dressing-room meeting, although a dismissal is not ruled out if Grêmio are knocked out of the Copa do Brasil.

They visit Mirassol on Sunday in the first of two matches for a quarter-final berth, with the return three days later at the Arena.
