Grêmio in talks with Vitória over permanent move for Wagner Leonardo | OneFootball

According to Globo.com, Grêmio are in talks with Vitória over defender Wagner Leonardo, with a permanent move under discussion.

Vitória made a bid last week that fell short of Grêmio’s financial expectations, but both clubs are exploring a compromise.

Grêmio still owe Vitória money from last year’s purchase of Wagner Leonardo, and offsetting part of that debt is one option. Vitória also tried to bring him back early this year, though that approach did not progress.

On Wednesday, Vitória announced the signing of centre-back Emanuel Brítez. President Fábio Mota said the club had pursued Wagner Leonardo before that deal, while insisting there are no negotiations with Grêmio now.

Wagner Leonardo is a reserve at Grêmio and has been losing minutes. In the most recent friendly against Chapecoense, Luís Castro used youngster Luís Eduardo on the left instead.

Grêmio are also in the market for a left-sided centre-back to deepen their options after the exit of Viery to Fiorentina.
