Grêmio’s away woes continued with a 2-1 defeat to Palmeiras at Arena Barueri, a fourth loss on the road in this Brasileirão, and they remain winless as visitors.

According to Globo.com, three collective issues underpinned the display, the first being an inability to play through the thirds. Facing a technically superior Palmeiras, Luís Castro’s side went long too often, with only one such move paying off as Carlos Vinicius scored after errors by Bruno Fuchs and Murilo. That was reflected in the passing figures. Gustavo Martins led Grêmio with 37 completed, while Andreas Pereira topped Palmeiras with 71.

The flanks misfired too. Tetê and Enamorado were meant to offer outlets, yet Tetê had little influence and lacked end product when involved, with the coach noting a personal issue. Enamorado found good positions but his final ball faltered, while half-time substitute Amuzu worried Giay more down the left and Enamorado faded on the right.

Castro was proactive at the interval, removing Tetê and Monsalve, who were off the pace, and Noriega for physical reasons after the international window. He said Amuzu had been managed physically, and Gabriel Mec also entered. The changes lifted the tempo, though the impact proved limited.

The midfield remained a problem in and out of possession. After the break, spaces in front of the box were reduced as the marking adjusted to Palmeiras' movement, yet Marlon Freitas still struck unmarked for his second goal.
