Paris Saint-Germain defender Griedge Mbock reflects on the highlights of the season, before looking ahead to the Arkema Première Ligue final against Olympique Lyonnais at Parc OL on Friday 16th May 2025.
Griedge, how did the team manage to bounce back after being knocked out of the Champions League?
'That was the club's main objective. There were a lot of disappointments and I'd only just arrived, so it was complicated. Then I got injured, so there were quite a few tough moments when I had to deal with the elimination and deal with my frustration because I couldn't play. After that, I was also lucky to be well supported. My team-mates helped me settle in well when I arrived. Of course, that puts you in a better frame of mind, and I had to bounce back quickly and find other objectives, because the season was far from over.'
How do you feel about the Coupe de France final?
'There was the contrast with the semi-final win over PFC, a week after we lost the Coupe de France final, because we immediately said to ourselves that we could have done the same thing a few days earlier. We'd made it to a league final, and we were happy, but at the same time we regretted that we could have done a lot better in that Coupe de France final. If we'd had things in our favour, it could have been different. It's a real regret.'
This semi-final took place at the Parc des Princes, so we imagine it's always special for you to play here...
'We're lucky. It's a very special atmosphere, the pitch is incredible and it's also a stadium that we have to respect because some great things have happened there. We wanted to show what we could do to win and progress. I think we did that very well.'
How will you approach this final against an opponent you know well in Olympique Lyonnais?
'They're a strong team that I know very well. They have incredible players in every area, in every position. I have enormous respect for the girls there and for the club too, because I spent so many years there. But now, it's a final. For 90 minutes or maybe even longer, there won't be any friends there. We're determined to show our worth, play to our strengths and show that we want to win. It's a title, it's a final. We're going to play our hearts out and show that we want to win this title.'
