Griezmann reaches 200 goals as Atletico Madrid thrash Eintracht Frankfurt 5-1 | OneFootball

Antoine Griezmann etched his name in Atletico Madrid history books after scoring his 200th goal for the club during the 5-1 win against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League last night.

After recording a sensational 5-2 win against Real Madrid over the weekend, Atletico wreaked havoc on the German underdogs with another dominant performance.

Goals by Giacomo Raspadori and Robin Le Normand gave Atletico a solid base to work from.

Griezmann netted his milestone goal in the added time of the first half after Julian Alvarez teed him up following a great run on the left flank.

Jonathan Burkardt pulled one back for the visitors, but Simeone headed home Atletico’s fourth of the evening from Alvarez’s corner kick.

Alvarez wrapped up the game with a penalty, as Diego Simeone’s side opened their account in the Champions League following the 3-2 defeat against Liverpool in the opener.

Frankfurt received a taste of their own medicine after their triumphant 5-1 win against Galatasaray.

Griezmann endured a rocky start to the new season, slipping down the pecking order under Simeone and enduring a long goal drought.

But he broke the duck in the Madrid derby over the weekend and has now scored for the second consecutive game. He is the first Atletico player to break the 200-goal barrier.

Alvarez has been in prolific form this season, bagging six goals and two assists in the last three games in all competitions.

Atletico’s form appeared to be plummeting after just one win in six games, but they have now recorded three victories on the trot, scoring 13 goals in the process.
