Pep Guardiola praised the performance of his team after Manchester City beat Arsenal to win the Carabao Cup.
Nico O’Reilly’s double sealed success for the Citizens at Wembley, as Guardiola set a new managerial record with his fifth League Cup triumph.
The win was the perfect response to City’s disappointing Champions League exit in midweek, against an Arsenal team who lead them by nine points in the Premier League.
Guardiola has admitted catching Arsenal will be tough in the title race, but lavished praise on his team for beating the Gunners, who he claimed have become ‘almost unbeatable’ under former City coach Mikel Arteta.
“What can I say? When you win a trophy is important,” he said to Sky Sports.
“It was special because we had a tough two weeks. What they did in the Champions League is so difficult. In the first 15 minutes they suffocated us, we could not breathe. After that we won some second balls and started to play.
“I’m really pleased because Mikel created a team that is almost unbeatable. A fifth Carabao Cup in 10 years is not bad. Every time you win a title it looks more difficult than in the past. it is really difficult for many reasons.
“We are still not the team like Arsenal are or like we were in the past. We always found a way to win titles.”
