Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has endorsed Enzo Maresca’s appointment as his successor, with an announcement expected in the coming days.
Guardiola is set to leave Manchester City after a decade with the club this summer, a period which has included 20 trophies, including six Premier League titles and the Champions League.
Though no announcement has been made, an agreement is understood to be in place with Maresca to replace him.
The former Chelsea manager previously worked as part of Guardiola’s coaching staff and talkSPORT are reporting that Guardiola’s personal endorsement has aided his selection.
Maresca has had interest from clubs including Tottenham Hotspur, AC Milan and Real Madrid since leaving Chelsea, but has instead opted to wait for the Etihad vacancy.
Guardiola, meanwhile, is planning a sabbatical from the game. According to SPORT, the 55-year-old is planning a year-long break from football before targeting a return in international management. Guardiola previously took 12 months out of the game when leaving Barcelona in 2012.
