Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has said he is ‘hopeful’ that Erling Haaland will be fit for this weekend’s clash with Burnley.
Haaland was substituted after scoring in City’s 1-1 draw at Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday. The Norwegian has been in blistering form so far this season, netting seven times in six appearances across all competitions.
Guardiola was asked for the reason Haaland was withdrawn at Arsenal and revealed the forward is a doubt for the weekend.
“It was recovery yesterday, we didn’t train, today I didn’t see him or the rest of the players yet, but hopefully he can be [fit] for the next weekend,” he said at his pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Huddersfield Town.
“It’s been a demanding week and the last game especially and sometimes the players have problems, but I think will be fine for next weekend.”
City’s draw at Arsenal leaves the club ninth in the Premier League table. However, Guardiola said his side should ‘celebrate’ the result against a ‘tough opponent’, despite conceding a late equaliser in North London.
“We recovered many things that last season we were missing. We have an incredible spirit. Of course we cannot maintain all this season playing the way we played [against Arsenal]. We don’t want it.
“But I give credit to an incredible and powerful opponent. Most the games they are able to do that to their opponent. I want to learn to celebrate the way we draw a game away at Arsenal, who were in the semi-final of the Champions League last season and a contender over many seasons. I want to celebrate that point.”
