Pep Guardiola signalled his desire to keep Bernardo Silva at Manchester City following the 2-0 first leg win over Newcastle in the League Cup semi-final.

According to Glorioso 1904, the City manager lauded the Portuguese international unprompted, saying the team would miss him, expressing hope he could renew for a very long time, and praising his fierce competitive streak.

The former Benfica midfielder is in his ninth season at City and is only months from entering the final year of his contract. Guardiola’s comments point to a wish to extend his stay, dampening talk of a cut price departure for now.

In Italy he continues to be linked with Juventus, Napoli and Como, a situation that promises to liven up the next transfer window.

This season he is valued at €27 million and has made 29 appearances, 21 in the Premier League, five in the Champions League, one in the FA Cup and two in the League Cup. Across 2014 minutes, he has one goal and three assists.
