Guarino wants West Ham United to keep building positive energy against Spurs | OneFootball

West Ham United head coach Rita Guarino says that she wants her side to carry forward the positive energy from their recent victories.

The Hammers have recorded back-to-back wins against Newcastle United and Leicester City and are building momentum.

Spurs are up next for West Ham United before games against Brighton & Hove Albion and Everton. When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Hammers boss Guarino said that every game is important in the race for Barclays Women’s Super League survival and that building positive energy is key.

“I always say that every game is important,” Guarino said. “Now, we need to continue the [positive] energy that came from the victory [against Leicester City] and try to do our best in the upcoming games. Every point is important to be safe in the league.

“It’s a tough game [against Spurs] but we will try to do our best.”

This weekend provides Guarino with a first opportunity to meet West Ham United’s fans at The Chigwell Construction Stadium. She is also looking forward to experiencing a first derby against Spurs.

She said “It’s my first home game, so it’s very important. My first home game being a derby like that is amazing.

“We want to keep all of our energy and bring it into the derby because it’ll be a great occasion.”

Opponents Spurs are flying high in fifth place in the Barclays Women’s Super League table. Guarino is aware of the North Londoners’ qualities but her focus is on improvement at West Ham United.

She said “They’ve grown a lot from last season. They’ve got some very important players and they’re playing very well, they’re very organised.

“We are very focused on our processes from previous games. We know that we need to improve a lot game-by-game and I’m very focused on that. 

“I recognise that they are a very good team.”
