Milan Primavera head coach Federico Guidi has admitted that his side were not ruthless enough in front of goal in their defeat to Torino.
Ahead of the trip to Turin there was genuine optimism that Milan may be able to squeeze themselves into the play-offs and got for the Scudetto, especially after last weekend’s win. However, those hopes took a big blow on Sunday lunchtime.
The young Rossoneri fell behind early in the second half against Torino and then conceded a second soon after, giving them a mountain to climb. Bonomi converted a penalty to make it game on again with 10 minutes left, but they eventually fell to a 2-1 defeat.
The result means that Milan go into the final round knowing they must win and hoping that Verona do not to get the last spot. Guidi spoke to Milan TV after the full-time whistle to offer his assessments on what was a potentially fatal defeat for his side, with his comments translated below.
“Let’s say we weren’t good at capitalising on the many chances we had, and then we went behind due to two mistakes where we could have done more and these mistakes when you come across experienced teams like Torino can hurt you.
“It’s a shame because the defeat wasn’t right for what we expressed on the pitch, but these are the mistakes we’ve been carrying around with us all season. The boys produce a lot and play well, but then we’re always missing something in the final phase.
“In the first half we deserved to be ahead, but in the second half we reacted too, we created some dangerous actions but we were always missing something to close, this is the sore point of today’s match.”
