Guido Rodríguez has been granted a few extra days of holiday in Argentina by Valencia. At 32, he becomes the club’s fifth-oldest signing of the 21st century.
According to AS, he agreed a two-year deal on Thursday afternoon, with an optional third season.
Since 1999-00, only César Sánchez, 37, Edison Cavani, 35, Seydou Keita, 34, and Iago Herrerín, 34, have arrived at Mestalla at an older age.
Age has not been a taboo at Mestalla, shaped by performances from Amedeo Carboni, who joined from Roma at 32, Luis Milla and Miroslav Djukic at 31, and Joselyn Angloma and Alain Roche at 30. Even so, signings over 30 have been relatively scarce this century.
At 32, only two others have come in, Renzo Saravia and Iván Helguera, and neither left a lasting imprint.
Seven arrived at 31, Fabián Orellana, Kevin Gameiro, Roncaglia, Jaume Costa, Helder Postiga, Juan Luis Mora and Didier Deschamps, and, obviously, Guido, who when he arrived in January had not yet turned 32.
Just turned 30, Jasper Cillessen, Luis Rioja and Stole Dimitrievski have also joined.
