Club América have confirmed the departure of André Jardine as head coach after three years, a spell that delivered six titles and a historic landmark for the club. The decision followed meetings between the coaching staff and the board, and was reached by mutual agreement.
With pre-season only days away, the board have begun the search for a successor. TUDN and Claro Sports report that Guillermo Almada is well advanced to take the job, with only final details remaining before any announcement.
Almada, a 56-year-old Uruguayan, has coached since 2008, starting with a third-tier side in his homeland. He has led seven teams, including Santos and Pachuca in Mexico.
His most successful spell came at Pachuca, where he won Liga MX, the Concacaf Champions Cup, the Derbi de las Américas and the Copa Challenger.
He is noted for developing young players, so América could see more academy talent promoted in Coapa under his watch.
His honours as a manager also include the Torneo Preparación with River Plate in Uruguay and Serie A with Barcelona in Ecuador.
