Former West Brom owner Guochuan Lai has resurfaced in UK records after his Solihull-registered company, Yunyi Guokai Limited, was issued with a Companies House strike off notice. The entity had remained active on the register until recently.
More than two years on from Lai’s exit, this is the first time he has been heard of since, according to ExpressAndStar.com.
He acquired Albion from Jeremy Peace via Yunyi Guokai (Shanghai) Sports Development Limited, paying around £150m. His reign featured loans and financial problems, and he oversaw the club’s drop out of the Championship.
Protests and fan anger mounted, and Albion were later sold to Shilen Patel for £60m.
Patel has faced a difficult turnaround, yet Albion are now on a more stable financial footing. This season included a PSR breach and a two point deduction that left the club unhappy.
Last week it emerged that Albion were potentially heading for a £20m breach but for the work of Patel and his team. The club’s position going into the summer contrasts with Lai’s final days, and little is known about his current activities.
