Erling Haaland’s hat-trick for Norway against Israel saw him become the fastest player to reach a half-century of international goals.
Already his nation’s record goal-scorer, his latest treble means he reached the 50 goal-mark (he has 51 in total), faster than Harry Kane, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo or Kylian Mbappe did for their nations.
Even Pele didn’t manage to get to 50 goals for Brazil quicker than Haaland who continues to rewrite the history books almost on a game-by-game basis.
He went into Saturday’s World Cup qualifier against Israel on 48 goals from 45 matches, and despite missing a penalty on six minutes – and the subsequent retake – our prolific No.9 added goals on 27, 63 and 72 minutes to move past the half century mark quicker than any other player in history.
In doing so, he surpassed England skipper Kane who took 71 games and Kylian Mbappe who took 90 appearances to reach 50 for France.
Record international goal-scorer Cristiano Ronaldo took 114 games for Portugal to score 50 goals.
Meanwhile Lionel Messi needed 107 games before he reached 50 international goals for Argentina.
For context, here is a list of world superstars and the games they took to reach the same milestone:
It is an incredible feat by one of the most prolific goal-scorers of modern times and everyone at Manchester City congratulates Erling on this wonderful international landmark.
