City's Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku and Kevin De Bruyne were on target for Norway and Belgium respectively on another busy and dramatic night of 2026 World Cup qualifying action across Europe.
Norwegian striker Haaland proved the difference once again for his country as the striker’s 62nd minute goal earned Ståle Solbakken’s side a precious 1-0 victory away at Estonia.
Haaland broke the deadlock midway through the second half in Tallinn, finishing from close range after his deflected original shot had struck the bar after a quickfire Norwegian counterattack.
Remarkably it was Haaland’s 42nd goal for Norway in just 44 appearances – and made it four wins out of four to keep the Scandinavians top of Group I.
Haaland’s City colleague Oscar Bobb came on from the bench after 46 minutes before then being replaced himself in injury time.
Meanwhile, Doku and De Bruyne also scored as Belgium secured a dramatic and eventful 4-3 win at home to Wales in Group J.
It initially looked as if the hosts would sweep to victory with Romelu Lukaku opening the scoring for Belgium with a 15th minute penalty before the Red Devils then doubled their advantage four minutes later through Aston Villa’s Youri Tielemans.
Doku then took centre stage on 26 minutes, initially receiving the ball on the right edge of the Wales box, the City winger then cut inside, beating two men before drilling a superb 18-yard shot inside the far post to further extend Belgium's lead.
However, Craig Bellamy’s visitors struck back to reduce the deficit deep into first half stoppage time when Harry Wilson converted from the penalty spot after a foul by Belgium ‘keeper Matz Sels.
And six minutes after the restart they gained added momentum when Sorba Thomas rounded off a fine team move to claim his first international goal.
With their belief restored, Wales capped a stunning fightback when Brennan Johnson headed home on 70 minutes to make it 3-3.
There was to be one further twist in the tale however with De Bruyne heading in late on to seal a dramatic 4-3 victory after an earlier Lukaku effort had been ruled out by VAR.
The result leaves Belgium in third place in Group J with four points from two games, Wales second with seven points from four and North Macedonia top with eight points from four games.
Elsewhere in Europe, City defender Josko Gvardiol provided a first half assist as Croatia thrashed the Czech Republic 5-1 in Group L.
Gvardiol was the architect in helping Croatia break the deadlock on 42 minutes with Andrej Kamaric firing in the opener for the hosts.
Though Thomas Soucek struck on 58 minutes to level affairs, that merely prompted a ferocious Croatian assault in the final half hour that saw Luka Modric (penalty), Ivan Perisic, Ante Budmir (penalty) and Kamaric all finding the target.
The Czechs remain top of Group L with nine points from four games with Croatia now second with six points after winning their opening two matches.
