Pep Guardiola delivered an injury update on Erling Haaland ahead of Man City’s meeting with Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Wednesday.

The striker was absent for last Saturday’s 1-0 win over Leeds United at Elland Road after sustaining what Guardiola called a “little injury”.

City will be keen to welcome Haaland back into the fold as they look to once more reduce the gap to leaders Arsenal to two points.

Guardiola did not definitively confirm that Haaland will return to the starting lineup for the visit of Forest, but did say that he is feeling “much better”.

The squad did not train on Monday, so a decision on the Norway international’s involvement will be made on Tuesday.

“He feels much better but yesterday we didn’t train. Today, we are so we will decide after that.

“We will do the same for Nico [O’Reilly] after the training.”

Forest are fighting for survival in the bottom half of the table, but Guardiola believes they are a team full of quality with a “top-class manager” following Vitor Pereira’s recent appointment.

“I remember him from Porto,” he added. “It was the Super Cup in Monaco, I remember perfectly. I remember playing Wolves last season, they outplayed us in the first half, we were incredibly lucky.

“A top-class manager. They were alive against Brighton and Liverpool. When we played them with Sean Dyche, they have quality players like Morgan Gibbs-White and Callum Hudson-Odoi. They have top, top players and a big squad.

“They play for important things [battling against relegation] like us and this is starting to be decisive part of the season. We have two games in the Premier League before the international break. We can’t drop points because we are five points behind Arsenal.”
