Manchester City moved to the top of the Premier League table thanks to a 2-0 win over Everton at the Etihad Stadium, with Erling Haaland once again the star of the show.

The first half saw the visitors cause a few problems for City, with Iliman Ndiaye buzzing down the right and testing Gianluigi Donnarumma with a thunderous effort. Beto also came close to converting a low cross, while Jake O’Brien nearly scored an own goal.

Despite Everton’s bright moments, City controlled possession and created a handful of chances, though they couldn’t find a way through before the break.

The breakthrough arrived in the 58th minute. Nico O’Reilly delivered a perfect left-wing cross, and Haaland powered a header into the bottom corner, putting City ahead.

Haaland was not finished there. Five minutes later, Savinho’s cutback found the striker, who slotted a low left-footed shot past Jordan Pickford, slightly deflected off James Tarkowski, to double the lead.

The two goals brought Haaland’s Premier League tally to 11 for the season and continued his remarkable goalscoring streak following a hat-trick for Norway during the international break.

In the end, it was the Norwegian striker’s clinical finishing that made the difference, with Everton unable to convert the few chances they had.
