The PFA Player of the Year award for the 2024/25 season was given as expected to Mo Salah, who also won the Golden Boot, the Premier League and a massive new contract.

This season it might go to Erling Haaland for scoring all of the goals, or an Arsenal player for the first time since Robin van Persie.

8=) Antoine Semenyo (Bournemouth)

Currently the closest competitor to Erling Haaland in the Golden Boot race. How we would love to live in a world where a Bournemouth player could be the PFA Player of the Year, but recent history tells us it goes to a title contender.

8=) Martin Zubimendi (Arsenal)

The first of five Arsenal players; he has been brilliant so far for his new club and you get the sense that he is popular amongst his peers.

8=) Moises Caicedo (Chelsea)

If Chelsea are going to haul themselves into a Premier League title race, it is likely because Caicedo is having a belter of a season. He has certainly replaced Cole Palmer as the Blues’ most important player.

5=) Eberechi Eze (Arsenal)

The second of five Arsenal players; he has been brilliant so far for his new club and you get the sense that he is popular amongst his peers.

5=) Mo Salah (Liverpool)

The now three-time winner of the PFA award is up there again in the betting, though our sneaky feeling this will be an After The Lord Mayor’s Show of a season from the Egyptian seems to have been prescient.

5=) Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool)

If this is Liverpool’s year but it’s not Salah’s year, then it might be Van Dijk’s year once again; he was the winner in 2018/19. But he is going to have to stop being quite so sh*t.

4) Declan Rice (Arsenal)

If Arsenal do win the Premier League, it is likely to be on the foundations of their set-pieces. And Declan Rice is key to those set-pieces.

3) Bukayo Saka (Arsenal)

A curious one this but worth noting that he was an early favourite in the 24/25 betting before he got injured. Maybe everybody thinks he is due a trophy. He was poor against Manchester United in the opening game and then got injured again v Leeds United. But he’s since come back and no massive stones have been moved.

2) Gabriel (Arsenal)
