After a very successful 2024-25 season, FC Barcelona will once again be aiming to compete for all the big titles in the upcoming 2025-26 season. To ensure they achieve their objectives for this upcoming season, the Blaugranes have already started their preparations, and the team is training under Hansi Flick.
Meanwhile, the sporting department, in conjunction with the coaching department, is also finalizing its plans for their squad for the next season. The Catalans have already added a new goalkeeper, Joan Garcia, and a young winger, Roony Bardghji, and are still working to bring more offensive reinforcements.
On the other hand, there are some departures expected as well, with Barcelona looking to offload a centre-back and the goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
In this regard, the latest news from SPORT claims that Flick can open the door to the departure of a midfielder as well, as he does not want a crowded team, and there could be news in this regard after the end of the Asian tour.
The German coach has some untouchable midfielders in his starting eleven, and he believes there are too many players for the middle of the pitch at his disposal.
Pedri and Frenkie de Jong are irreplaceable, but other midfielders, including Marc Casado, Marc Bernal, Gavi, Fermin Lopez, and Dani Olmo, might have to fight for a position in the starting eleven.
Raphinha can also operate more as an attacking midfielder next season, especially if a new winger arrives. Similarly, Oriol Romeu is also available, even though he is not a part of Flick’s plans for the next season.
Even if Romeu is excluded, this means eight players for three midfield positions, and Flick will make a decision in this regard soon. Recently, there was news linking Fermin Lopez with a move away from Barcelona, while Casado has also been linked with a departure.
For now, it remains to be seen which midfield options Hansi Flick will have for the next season, and the month of August can prove to be pivotal in this regard.
