The first season of Hansi Flick in charge of FC Barcelona was the stuff of dreams. He took a team that had been drifting for a few seasons, grabbed them by the scruff of the neck, and led them to a domestic treble while coming very close to reaching the Champions League final.
The German coach continues to receive widespread praise for his remarkable work. He was recently awarded the Miguel Muñoz Trophy for the best coach of last season by MARCA, an honor that recognizes not only the titles he won but also the style of football his team displayed throughout the campaign.
Reflecting his customary humility, Flick dedicated the award to the entire squad. As quoted by Mundo Deportivo, he said:
“It’s a great honor to receive this award, but it also shows that it’s not just for me, it’s for the team. Both the players and the coaching staff did a fantastic job last season, and that’s why we earned this trophy.”
Hansi Flick made a significant impact in his first season in Spain, a challenge that is never easy for a coach arriving from another league and country. He avoided direct comparisons with his previous experience in Germany.
“I don’t want to compare La Liga with the Bundesliga, but I will say what I’ve seen here, and I like it. In Spain, every team has its own identity and wants to play football. It’s not easy to prepare for a match because every opponent brings something different,” he explained.
This season has been a reality check for Flick. Multiple injuries have prevented the team from performing at the level it showed last year, and the German coach has been searching for solutions over the past few months.
Key absences have included Raphinha, Joan Garcia, and Pedri, all of whom are nearing full recovery. Flick is confident that their return will help Barcelona regain its momentum.
“In the second half of the match against Celta, we were a great team with an excellent performance. Maybe we currently lack the confidence we should normally have, but some players will return, and that will help us a lot,” he said.
Hansi Flick now faces a demanding schedule over the next month, a period he considers decisive for Barcelona’s ambitions.
“We are going to focus on these four weeks, during which we will fight to win every game. If we play at a great level like we did in Vigo, everything will be fine.”
With the team improving, injured players returning, and Flick firmly in charge, Barcelona approaches this crucial stretch with renewed ambition and confidence, aiming to compete for the top positions in both La Liga and the Champions League group stage.
