A ‘deep internal debate’ was noted behind the scenes at La Liga giants Barcelona over recent weeks, regarding the future of a member of the club’s defensive ranks.
That’s according to Diario AS, who point towards Andreas Christensen as having been at the centre of the discussions.
Stopper Christensen is for his part of course fresh off an altogether underwhelming campaign in Catalunya’s capital.
Owing to a pair of long-term injury problems, the Dane was restricted to just six total appearances across all competitions.
And yet, if the latest word stemming from the media is anything to go by, Hansi Flick remained happy to continue countung on Christensen as part of his squad for next season.
As per AS:
‘Hansi Flick was satisfied with the Dane and was banking on his continued presence, considering that an injury left him practically unused last season.’
The problem for Flick, however, is that Deco and the club’s board are in complete disagreement.
Christensen will not be offered an extension to his contract at the Camp Nou, which is due to expire in the summer of 2026.
To ensure that the former Chelsea man does not depart for free, Barca have therefore been left with little choice but to seek out a sale over the weeks and months ahead.
As much has given rise to spirited debate behind the scenes in Catalunya, albeit with Deco set to win out in placing his full faith in the talents of Ronald Araújo.
