Hansi Flick has kept faith in Marc Casado, with Barcelona retaining their first team squad in the winter window and only Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who was not in Flick’s plans, leaving for Girona. Casado stayed put for the rest of the season.
According to Sport, Flick started the midfielder against Real Oviedo on 25 January to show he still counts on him, ruling out a late-window move.
He also started against Mallorca last weekend. Pedri, de Jong and Gavi were injured, and with Marc Bernal still regaining full sharpness, the 22-year-old remained an option for Flick.
Even so, it has been a difficult campaign for Casado. He sits behind Frenkie de Jong, Pedri and Eric Garcia in midfield, and when he has featured his levels have fallen below expectations. That has fuelled doubts about his future at the Spotify Camp Nou.
Manchester United and Atletico Madrid are reportedly interested. Whether he stays beyond this season is unclear, and he could be sold to raise funds, although if Flick had his way a sale might not be entertained.
