Hansi Flick has a contract with Barcelona until June 2027, but he could remain on the Barcelona bench for longer.
The German coach renewed his deal in May for one additional season, but the club are interested in extending it by a further year, as reported earlier this week.
Last weekend, a meeting took place between Flick’s agent, Pini Zahavi, and club president Joan Laporta, which was later joined by sporting director Deco in Barcelona.
At that meeting, the club’s senior officials conveyed to the coach’s agent their interest in extending his contract by one more year, until June 2028.
According to Mundo Deportivo, despite his continuity being secured until 30 June 2027, Barcelona want Flick to begin next season with an extra year on his contract to have greater authority within the dressing room.
It is also a way of showing the full confidence that the club have in him.
Flick, for his part, is very happy at Barcelona and enjoys a strong relationship with both Laporta and Deco. However, the German coach prefers to wait until the end of the season before discussing a possible renewal.

Flick will turn 61 next February and, at present, his focus is on enjoying the day-to-day work on the Barcelona bench, without committing himself long term.
In fact, last year he also set aside any renewal talks until almost the end of the season, as he first wanted to concentrate on daily work with his players and see how they responded.
Moreover, Flick is aware that presidential elections will take place at Barcelona next year, and he is also not in favour of conditioning the club’s bench for a longer period without knowing whether Laporta, who backed his appointment, will return as president.
In principle, if the team responds and achieves the objectives set for this season and Laporta remains at the head of the club, Flick would have no problem continuing at Barcelona for another year, as he loves the club and the city.
However, to assess that scenario, he prefers to wait until the end of the season.
