Haris Tabaković is yet to score a penalty-kick in the Bundesliga after his second attempt was saved by Alexander Nübel in Borussia Mönchengladbach’s defeat to VfB Stuttgart. Kevin Diks, who has a perfect record from 12 yards, was absent due to a head injury. The Bosnian striker talked about the incident in a flash interview with DAZN.
“I think we started the game well,” said Tabaković before explaining the impact of his penalty miss. “If I score the penalty, the game could have gone in a completely different direction. I have to take responsibility for the fact that we didn’t go 1-0 up because I missed the penalty.”
Gladbach’s top-scorer of the season continued with his assessment for the rest of the game. “Even after the penalty, we were still in the game in the first half. After the break, though, we made things too easy for Stuttgart. We stopped playing our football. Stuttgart then showed the quality they have, which made things very difficult for us.”
Eugen Polanski agreed with Tabaković’s entire analysis, but he added the one thing that annoyed him the most in his post-match interview. “We didn’t do too badly in the first half. What I didn’t like was our body language after going behind. In the second half, it became difficult for us because of the opponent’s quality.
“That’s when we needed to keep believing. Doing that would’ve also sent a signal to the supporters. We need to address the things that weren’t good and implement them better in the future."
