Three Lions skipper suffered an injury while playing for Bayern Munich at the weekend
England captain Harry Kane may be a doubt for Thursday’s friendly against Wales after missing training on the eve of the game.
The Three Lions’ all-time leading scorer was following an individualised indoor programme on Wednesday so did not join the rest of the squad in their main outdoor session at St George’s Park, having been substituted late with a knock during Bayern Munich’s 3-0 Bundesliga win over Eintracht Frankfurt at the weekend.
Also working indoors rather than out on the grass was Bayer Leverkusen defender Jarell Quansah, meaning the uncapped centre-back may also miss the game against Wales.
Speaking to the media on Monday, Quansah had said: “Hopefully it’s something that I will achieve, a cap for England, and it would be a great moment for me and my family.”
England head coach Thomas Tuchel is due to speak to the media in a press conference on Wednesday evening to preview the match at Wembley, where he should provide a further team news update.
He will be joined by Marc Guehi, meaning the Crystal Palace skipper looks in line to start against Wales.
If Kane were absent for the game, Tuchel would need to look elsewhere for a solution to lead England’s attack, with 4-2-3-1 his preferred formation.
Ollie Watkins is the only other recognised centre-forward in the squad, but West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen and Barcelona loanee Marcus Rashford could deputise in the role if needed.
Following the friendly against Wales, England travel to Riga to face Latvia in a World Cup qualifier on Tuesday night, knowing they could secure passage to next summer’s tournament in Canada, Mexico and the United States with a victory.
England Under-20s trio Shea Lacey, Lakyle Samuel and Harrison Murray-Campbell were all involved in Wednesday's training session with the senior team but are not part of Tuchel’s squad.
