England captain Harry Kane credited boss Thomas Tuchel for inspiring his side’s second-half display in their 4-2 win over Croatia.

Kane scored twice in the first half but England were pegged back on both occasions, going in at the break level at 2-2 in their first game of this World Cup.

But Jude Bellingham put the Three Lions back in front early on in the second half before substitute Marcus Rashford secured the victory with a fourth for his team.

“Credit to the manager,” Kane told ITV after the game. “The manager gave us a speech at half-time saying if we lose, we lose, but we lose in our way, and I think you saw that with the way we came out in the second half.

“We went full gas and they couldn’t live with it. That’s the level we had to set.

“Credit to everyone, the first win of the tournament. A great result against a tough side.”

Asked what Tuchel changed at the break, Kane explained: “I think without the ball we went a little bit more aggressive. It was difficult, they’ve got great players. When Luka (Modric) is dropping in and you’re trying to figure out who to pick up.

“But in the second half we felt like, let’s just go. If we see a man in front, we go. Just the intensity we went at, I think that’s our biggest strength so we’re going to have to do that more this tournament.”
