According to AFP, Manchester United defender Harry Maguire will lodge a further appeal after his suspended sentence in Greece was cut on Wednesday. He has maintained from the outset that he was not involved in the fight that led to the case.

At the appeal hearing, he was again found guilty of minor assault, resisting arrest and attempted bribery over an incident in Mykonos in August 2020, and handed a suspended term of 15 months, reduced from 21 months and 10 days.

The case has now reached a fifth listing after four postponements between 2023 and 2025, attributed to lawyer strikes and scheduling issues. He was detained for two days following the incident, denied any wrongdoing, received a suspended sentence, then secured a retrial by appealing the initial convictions.

Maguire, 32, is an England international with 64 caps and 7 goals. He continues to deny involvement in a violent brawl that also caused injuries to two police officers who had come to make arrests.

According to Sky Sports, his brother Joe and friend Christopher Sharman were also convicted over the incident and sentenced to 13 months in prison, suspended for three years. They have also denied any involvement.
