Harry Winks is close to leaving Leicester City for Cagliari, with a medical expected before a permanent move.

The midfielder has one year left on his contract after relegation from the Championship, and has faced several off-field issues.

Winks has trained with team-mates at Seagrave over the past two weeks but did not play in Saturday’s pre-season win at Northampton Town. He was at the training base and posed for photographs with supporters.

Reports this week have suggested the 30-year-old is on the verge of a return to Italy. He is expected to complete medical tests and sign for Cagliari on a two-year deal at the Unipol Domus, having previously played for Sampdoria.

Leicester are reshaping the squad and Winks is now anticipated to depart. Head coach Russell Martin said he expects arrivals soon along with some exits, and that the group should look different by the time they travel to Spain.
