An emotional Troy Parrott will reflect on a fairytale week on international duty after his hat-trick in Ireland's 3-2 win over over Hungary last night - and his goalscoring numbers for club and country are now up there with the best in the game.
The former Tottenham academy graduate has excelled since joining AZ Alkmaar at the start of last season and he carried his red-hot form into the recent international break topping his match-winning brace against Portugal last Thursday with all three goals against the Hungarians.
Victory saw Heimir Hallgrimsson's Green Army book a World Cup play-off spot at their hosts' expense, and Parrott and his team-mates will now return to their clubs with a massive spring in their step.
With six Eredivisie strikes and seven goals in five Europa Conference League qualifying games already in 2025/26, Parrott has certainly burst out of the blocks and - if you factor in his goals on the international scene - he has notched 18 goals in total for club and country.
Those kinds of numbers lift him into the elite bracket of European goal scorers, although some very familiar names have still outscored the Irishman this term.
The incredible goalscoring form of Erling Haaland shows no signs of abating and the Man City and Norway striker has plundered 31 goals for club and country across all competitions - England captain Harry Kane and Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé not too far behind on 23 goals.
Parrott's name is deservedly in the frame with those Euro hotshots, though, and the 23-year-old's challenge now is to retain his razor-sharp edge in front of goal.
AZ Alkmaar are currently third in the Eredivisie and Parrott will return to domestic action this Sunday with a trip to Heerenveen.
