During some analysis whilst working for CBS, Thierry Henry was rather critical of Kylian Mbappé’s (25) work rate when leading the line for Real Madrid. The France captain is coming under scrutiny for his performances since he made his move to the Spanish capital from Paris Saint-Germain.
Mbappé stole all of the headlines during the summer transfer window after a two-year transfer saga came to an end, and he finally signed for Madrid. However, concerns before the move are now becoming a reality, with the former Monaco attacker struggling to fit in with the existing dynamic at the disposal of Carlo Ancelotti, which worked so well last season.
The 25-year-old has found himself playing in a more central role with the La Liga outfit – something he has previously expressed distaste at doing. With the Frenchman’s preference to operate on the left flank, this is creating a disjointed look to the Los Merengues attack. In addition to this, Mbappé has been criticised for his work rate and movement whilst leading the line.
The France U21 boss said, “It is Bellingham who behaves more like a number 9, making the runs, and trying to make the team play. He never runs.” Henry continued to comment on the balance of the team, “It’s not good enough. One thing that was spoken about is how will Ancelotti balance the team. Rodrygo gave the team balance.”
