Pablo Hernández has addressed the fourth straight absence of winger Brian Cipenga, confirming he will not face Granada at SkyFi Castalia on Monday 6 April 2026.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, Cipenga was called up by the Democratic Republic of Congo for a 2026 World Cup qualifying play-off. He then missed matches against Cultural Leonesa, Albacete Balompié and UD Almería.
With the Leopards celebrating success back home, Hernández said the player remains in his country and the situation has been confusing, including over whether footballing or political authorities have retained him.
He added that it is not acceptable to lose a salaried player for three fixtures to international duty and then further games because his selection or country keep him. The club, he said, will assess and take steps to ensure it does not happen again.
All this comes with the backdrop that, barring a major surprise, Cipenga is set to be called up for the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico, which would mean missing the final LaLiga Hypermotion round and any potential play-off.
On Mabil, Hernández noted the winger had a long journey but has trained with the group for two days and is available to be involved on Monday, so they are counting on him.
