According to El Correo, Herri Norte issued a social media statement accusing Athletic president Jon Uriarte and his board of authoritarian decisions, manipulation and lies, and alleging bans that prevent them following the team away.
They say some fans face lifetime blocks on buying away tickets and attending matches outside San Mamés. On Monday they said they were behind posters near the stadium reading “kendu betoak Herri Norteri”, or “lift the ban on Herri Norte”.
They blame the Ertzaintza for requesting a veto and the board for enforcing it, and say there are no disciplinary cases, sanctions in force or legal resolutions, arguing this is more than an administrative decision.
Appealing to athleticzales, they highlight fans who have followed Athletic for decades and say many barred supporters’ only offence has been to stand with them or wear group clothing. Citing Spain’s anti-violence law, they insist basic rights to know charges and defend themselves are being denied.
They argue recent decisions suggest the board treats the club as its property, not the people’s. Calling for respect for those in the stands since 1982, they announced plans for a mobilisation and warned other groups could be next.
He reported harassment and threats to the Ertzaintza on 20 March, after material detailed surveillance from 22 December to nine January, including hooded men entering his building and letters with Herri Norte stickers. Herri Norte have been on the Comisión Antiviolencia list since 2018, which bars them from entering stadiums as an identified group.
