‘He’s a legendary player’: Vinicius opens up on relationship with Real Madrid teammate Mbappe | OneFootball

One of the major talking points at Real Madrid, following yet another season with no major trophy, has been the failure of the partnership between Vinicius Jr. and Kylian Mbappe.

The superstar forwards have simply not been able to click together on the pitch – something that many predicted ahead of the Frenchman’s acquisition in 2024.

It has given way to all sorts of speculations about there being a breakdown of relationship between Vinicius and Mbappe and a division inside the locker room into two camps because of it.

Vinicius discusses Mbappe relationship

Now, speaking in an interview with Caze TV (h/t AS), Vinicius has addressed his relationship with Mbappe head on, insisting that they share a good equation, at the same time acknowledging that it has not translated to success on the field.

“I’ve always had a good relationship with Mbappe, both on and off the pitch. I was always sending him messages trying to convince him to come to Real Madrid,” the Brazilian stated.

“We haven’t been able to play well yet, the way we want, and win titles, but we can turn that around.”

Continuing, Vinicius highlighted how Mbappe has supported him off the field, especially during the incident in the Benfica game.

“He’s a good person; he always defends me in interviews and on the field, like against Benfica. I would defend him too,” the Brazilian noted.

Mourinho’s big task

Despite their failure to click, Real Madrid have no intention of parting ways with either Mbappe or Vinicius in the summer.

Instead, they have tasked the incoming manager, Jose Mourinho, to find a way to get the two superstars to succeed together on the pitch as Florentino Perez & co. believe that unlocking the duo’s partnership will be key to taking Real Madrid back to the top.
