After a disappointing run of results in the Championship, it is shaping up to be an important January transfer window for Birmingham City.

Birmingham owner Tom Wagner made it clear that the club were targeting back-to-back promotions in the summer, but after a bright start to the season, it has been a tough few weeks for Chris Davies' side.

The Blues were held to a 1-1 draw by Southampton on Monday night, with Cameron Archer's equaliser for the Saints cancelling out Phil Neumann's opener, and the Midlands outfit currently sit 15th in the table, seven points from the play-off places.

Amid reports that Davies' position could be under threat, it remains to be seen whether he will be given the chance to remain in charge for the transfer window, but either way, it could be a busy month for Birmingham, with incomings and outgoings expected.

One player who could be departing St Andrew's @ Knighthead Park next month is forward Lewis Koumas, who has failed to score or assist in 18 appearances since joining on loan from Liverpool in the summer, with only five of those coming from the start.

As Koumas continues to struggle for game time, it seems the Premier League champions could be prepared to cut his time with the Blues short, with the Daily Mail claiming this week that his situation "could be looked at" in January.

When asked whether he would like to see Koumas' loan terminated in January, FLW's Birmingham City fan pundit Jason Moore insisted his exit would be the right move for all parties, admitting he has not been impressed by the 20-year-old so far this season.

"For me, he's got to go back," Jason told FLW.

"He just doesn't really offer anything.

"He's a quick player, but he never seems to beat his man.

"It's just a loan move that hasn't worked out.

"He probably thought he was going to come here and play football, which baffles me to be fair because we've literally signed Demarai Gray on the left side.

"It wasn't the best move, it hasn't worked out, and he hasn't offered anything when he's played.

"If we can send him back and get someone else, then 100% send him back.

"It would be the best thing for him and his career, he's not starting for us, and he's getting stick from fans when he comes on because he's not offering a lot.

"He maybe needs to go to a lower end Championship team or mid-table fodder where there isn't as much pressure, like Blackburn or somewhere.

"That would be the best move for me, go to someone mid-table and get your career back on track."

Lewis Koumas, Birmingham City exit looks inevitable in January after fresh Liverpool update

Koumas enjoyed a strong loan spell at Stoke City last season, scoring six goals and provided three assists in 49 games, and having proven himself in the Championship, he looked to be an exciting signing for Birmingham.

Given that the Potters battled relegation for much of last season, the Blues would have hoped that Koumas could kick on in a team with promotion aspirations, but it has not worked out that way, and with his last start coming all the way back in October, it does not seem as though he is part of Davies' plans.

There could be a potential managerial change on the cards at St Andrew's @ Knighthead Park in the coming weeks as pressure builds on Davies, which could open the door for Koumas, but with Liverpool said to be preparing to review his situation, a fresh start away from Birmingham may be best for the Welsh international.
