Former Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson has pinpointed Amad Diallo as the most underrated player he’s ever played with.

Amad has endured a stop-start three years at United since he joined the club from Serie A giants Atalanta in an £18.7million deal that could reach £36.3m with add-ons.

The forward played on eight occasions after linking up with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s United in January 2021 but a combination of injuries and loan spells with Rangers and Sunderland hampered him from truly advancing with his career at Old Trafford.

The Ivorian was frustrated again just before the start of the 2023/24 campaign as he picked up an injury in pre-season that ruled him out of action for months. When he returned to the team, Amad primarily had to contend with a place on the bench as Erik ten Hag demonstrated a clear preference for either Alejandro Garnacho or the ineffective Antony on the right-wing position.

However, Amad got his big break as the season approached its end. He was outstanding, especially during Unted’s last home game, which was against Newcastle. On that occasion, the 21-year-old scored a sensational goal to help his side clinch all three points.

Amad also played a key role during United’s way to winning the FA Cup. He bagged a last-minute winner during a thrilling quarter-final clash against Liverpool.

Henderson spoke to the Lion’s Den on YouTube while on England duty at Euro 2024 and was asked to name the most underrated player he has ever played with or against.

Initially, the Carrington academy graduate picked ex-Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino.

Henderson was then asked to pinpoint a less established name and he settled on Amad. The goalkeeper said about the United forward, “Amad Diallo. Obviously he’s broke onto the scene this season.”

“He’s top, top.”

A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Amad was set to hold showdown talks with Ten Hag as he seeks reassurances of the amount of playing time he’ll be afforded next season.

It was stated that Amad wants to be given the opportunity to fight for a place in the starting XI.
