Sky Germany and Kicker both report that Hoffenheim are set to complete the signing of midfielder Luis Engelns from Paderborn

The fee for the 18-year-old is not yet known, but he is currently valued at €4m and has a contract at Paderborn until 2027.

This season, Engelns has played 17 times for Paderborn in the 2.Bundesliga and can play anywhere in midfield. Considering the recent departure of Dennis Geiger, Engelns could be seen as a backup option and a player for the future.

Engelns is also the son of former Borussia Mönchengladbach and current Leeds United manager Daniel Farke.

Hoffenheim’s other winter business:

Engels won’t be the only deadline day arrival for Christian Ilzer’s side. Striker Yannick Eduardo is set to join the club from RB Leipzig for €2m. While Stuttgarter Kickers Oskas Hencke will also join.

Hoffenheim are currently third in the Bundesliga and are only three points behind second-place Borussia Dortmund. Under Ilzer, they have gone from relegation candidates to now competing for a Champions League spot.
