With only 21 minutes under his belt, Ondrej Lingr made his debut worthwhile for Houston Dynamo. The recently acquired midfielder from Slavia Prague replaced a player in the second half after coming off the bench and equalized in the 96th minute to help play out a 2-2 draw against Colorado Rapids at Shell Energy Stadium. The ball hit the back of the net following play built by Franco Escobar and Jack McGlynn, in a move that started deep and ended with Lingr's header through the box and into the far corner.

Equalizer came into being when Jack McGlynn floated a deep cross to Franco Escobar. The fullback was up for the challenge and headed it to the middle of the box. Lingr dived in to close down the cross and played it on nicely, slotting it into the net and securing the tie on the last play of the match.

Bassi receives first, Colorado turns around

Amine Bassi gave Houston the lead in the 42nd minute of the first half. It came after a quick exchange between Sebastian Kowalczyk and Griffin Dorsey down the right side, leaving Bassi by himself in the center of the box. Bassi scored his second of the year, and Kowalczyk his second assist in a row. It was also his 50th MLS start.

Colorado came level in the 59th minute when Djordje Mihailovic converted a penalty after Femi Awodesu had committed a foul inside the box. The visitors then turned the game around in the 77th minute, with Mihailovic playing a pass across to Rafael Navarro at the periphery of the area. The forward employed his right foot to shoot it into the corner and left the Rapids behind.

The match was not just Lingr's debut, but Jonathan Bond's as well. The new Watford FC goalkeeper was given his first test in the 20th minute when Mihailovic released the shot from inside the box. Bond remained firm at the near post and denied him the score. For the entire match, he was composed and helped make the score reachable until the final whistle. Not so for Jerrel Britto, who made a full debut for the squad.

At the opposite end, Zach Steffen was kept busy as well. In the 20th minute, he deflected a low Kowalczyk shot to the right corner. In the 24th, he stopped a close-range effort by McGlynn. Both keepers were tested in key moments.

Late response changes the outcome

The draw, besides garnering a point, gave Houston Dynamo the much-needed boost of confidence. The club is ranked 14th in the Western Conference and has not been consistent since the start of the season. The victory, which was achieved in stoppage time, emotionally meant a great deal to fans and players. Colorado Rapids did, however, earn a point after mounting a comeback in the second half. They are positioned in fifth position.
