Aaron Ramsey has addressed Cardiff City supporters with a goodbye message on social media.

Having departed Cardiff City for a second time in his career this summer, Aaron Ramsey has now addressed supporters with a farewell message in which he acknowledged it had been ‘personally challenging at times’.

The former Arsenal and Juventus midfielder initially departed South Wales all the way back in the summer of 2008 when he joined the Gunners for a fee believed to be in the region of £5 million, having helped Cardiff reach the 2008 FA Cup final as a Championship side.

The Welshman, who has been capped 86 times by his country and also played five times for Great Britain in 2012, was at Arsenal for 11 years before joining Juve on a free transfer in the summer of 2019.

After an underwhelming three years with the Bianconeri, which finished out on loan at Rangers, the injury-prone midfielder then endured another underwhelming stint on the continent, as he joined Nice for a season.

In 2023, he made a romantic return to the Cardiff City Stadium, but injuries hampered his playing time, and he eventually finished his stint as caretaker manager, overseeing the Bluebirds’ relegation to League One at the back end of last season.

Taking to Instagram, Ramsey has now communicated with supporters his emotions, after a two-year stint back in the Welsh capital comes to an end at the expiry of his contract this summer.

Ramsey said: “I leave Cardiff City with a lot of different emotions.

“Although it has been personally challenging at times, I made sure to give my all on and off the pitch for this wonderful club that is so close to my heart.

“For now, I am on a new adventure, but I will be keeping a close eye on the club as always, and it will forever have my support.

“Good luck to the staff and all the players for the upcoming season and a big thank you to the amazing fans!

“Until next time, Aaron”.

In response to Ramsey’s post, Joe Ralls, who is also departing Cardiff this summer, said it “was an absolute pleasure playing with you”, whilst Ollie Tanner and Yousef Salech responded with blue love heart emojis, too, showing how respected he was within the dressing room at the Cardiff City Stadium

Aaron Ramsey is set to make surprise move to Mexico after Cardiff City exit

It is now expected that Ramsey will join Liga MX side Pumas UNAM, who are coached by former Celtic full-back Efrain Juarez.

Should that deal go through, then Ramsey will link up with players such as Panama international midfielder Adalberto Carrasquilla, Mexico international attacker Rogelio Funes Mori and Argentinian winger Ignacio Pussetto, formerly of Watford - it's a far cry from South Wales anyhow.

As for Cardiff, Ramsey has been replaced by former Rochdale boss Brian Barry-Murphy in the dugout as the club seek to rebuild and immediately return to the second-tier of English football.

Off the pitch, Ramsey’s former international teammate Gareth Bale, who never played for Cardiff and instead came through the academy at Southampton, has confirmed he is part of a consortium that are looking to buy a controlling interest in the club, which is still currently owned by Vincent Tan.

Regardless of whether Bale and his consortium can take control of the club, it is going to have to be a busy summer for Cardiff, as they seek an immediate return to the Championship, and it's going to be big changes for Ramsey too, as he looks to embark on perhaps the final stage of his playing career.

He will be playing top flight football in Mexico, presumably just for one season, as his career winds down, but he will need to make sure that he stays fitter than he did in his two years at Cardiff, which were hampered by injuries, restricting him to just 21 league appearances in that time.
