Serie A side Roma probably know how important wing-backs are for Gian Piero Gasperini’s system and they could be prepared to move for another one in Atletico Madrid’s Matteo Ruggeri.
La Gazzetta dello Sport report that Los Rojiblancos’ move for Alex Grimaldo will go through soon. This will reduce the possibility for Ruggeri to play regularly and therefore bring him close to a possible reunion with Gasperini at Roma.
The Italian was waiting to understand his future for many weeks. Now he knows for certain that next season, should he remain in Madrid, he will no longer be a starter.
Roma will hand him a regular starter role at left wing-back, with Wesley likely to shift to the right side on a permanent basis. This should satisfy the Italian, who did well in the Champions League last season and he could get the guarantee of playing in the competition, if he ends up in Rome.
A move to the Giallorossi would help everyone involved – including Ruggeri. Gasperini saw him do well during his time at Atalanta and his system can bring more out of him, which is exactly what the ex-La Dea star needs in his career right now.
